STEM
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a key part of cadet life in the RAF Air Cadets, helping young people develop practical skills, problem-solving ability, and confidence for the future. Inspired by the innovation and technology of the Royal Air Force, our STEM programme gives cadets hands-on experience in a wide range of exciting activities.
Cadets can take part in projects covering subjects such as engineering, robotics, space, flight, cyber technology, and radio communications. Through practical challenges, teamwork exercises, and structured training, they learn how science and technology are applied in real-world situations — particularly in aviation and defence environments.
Our STEM activities help cadets to:
-
Develop technical knowledge and practical skills
-
Build teamwork and leadership abilities
-
Improve problem-solving and critical thinking
-
Gain recognised qualifications and awards
-
Explore potential careers in science, engineering, and technology
-
Whether building and programming devices, learning about aerospace principles, or taking part in national competitions, STEM within the RAF Air Cadets provides engaging opportunities that inspire curiosity and support personal development.
