Flying and Gliding

Joining the Air Cadets opens up lots of opportunities, including the chance to fly! It’s our aim to get you airborne as often as possible, as a passenger in a light aircraft, a glider or even on-board RAF aircraft such as our Typhoon fast-jet or a Chinook helicopter.

Adventure Training

Adventurous Training is an essential part of the Air Cadet's training syllabus and the place where team effort really matters - you'll build new friendships, and learn to rely on the other people you're with to get the job done. It also lets you show off your leadership qualities.

Shooting and Archery

Whatever level you are as a cadet, you'll have the opportunity to try your hand at military skills and drills including shooting.

Duke of Edinburgh

You may of heard of the DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) Award, but don't know what it is or whether it's for you. Well, it's for everyone who likes a challenge. Their mission is simple - 'to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development, and recognise their achievements'.

Parades and Drill

What's the point of drill and parade? You may think it doesn't have much to do with things like adventurous training, or leadership. That's not the case at all! It shows how disciplined and organised you can be as an individual, remembering instructions and carrying them out accurately. More importantly, it shows your ability to work in a team and is a way of displaying the high standards of dress and behaviour which air cadets are renowned for.

Fieldcraft

Fieldcraft is an exciting part of any squadron's training programme, and the promise of a good exercise is always guaranteed to get good attendance. Fieldcraft is, to put it simply, the art of living and moving in the field. Norfolk and Suffolk Wing have even introduced blank firing using the L98A2 rifles on camp.

Radio & Cyber

Radio and Cyber are exciting parts of the RAF Air Cadets training programme, offering cadets the chance to develop valuable technical skills. Radio focuses on the art of communication, teaching cadets how to operate equipment and pass messages clearly and effectively. Cyber introduces the world of digital technology, building knowledge in areas such as cybersecurity, coding, and problem-solving, helping cadets gain skills that are increasingly important in today’s world.

STEM

STEM activities are an engaging part of any squadron’s training programme, giving cadets the chance to explore science, technology, engineering, and maths in a hands-on way. From practical experiments and engineering challenges to problem-solving tasks and team projects, STEM helps develop curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills. These activities not only support academic learning but also show how STEM is used in real-world situations.

Camps

Annual camps are a highlight of the RAF Air Cadets experience, giving cadets the chance to spend extended periods away from their squadron while taking part in a wide range of activities. Camps often include flying opportunities, adventure training, sports, and visits to RAF stations, offering a unique insight into Royal Air Force life. They also help build independence, teamwork, and lasting friendships.

Sports and Athletics

Sports and Athletics are an important part of the RAF Air Cadets training programme, offering cadets the chance to stay active and challenge themselves physically. From team sports such as football and rugby to individual events like athletics and cross-country, cadets can develop fitness, discipline, and teamwork. Regular competitions at squadron, wing, and regional level also provide opportunities to represent their unit and achieve personal success.
